Apart from Sinharaja, one of the giant World Heritage rain forests, Kanneliya is the main rain forest found in Sri Lanka.
It belongs to KDN forest complex which refers to Kanneliya- Dediyagala and Nakiyadeniya. It is located in Galle district. KDN complex is having two waterfalls namely "Anagi Mala Ella" and "Narangas Ella" which are made up by "Nannikitha Ala" starting from Kanneliya forest reserve.
In the early eighties, this forest was used as a feed for the Ginthota plywood factory. So this is a mix of logged secondary and virgin forest.
Getting there From Galle, take the Udugama Road (B129) to Udugama. Continue towards Hiniduma and the turn-off to Kanneliya is after the 3 km post on the B429. If you want to get there from matara you have several options. The best and easy way to get there is take the Akuressa road and turn off to the bangama road towards Udugama.
